a plea to blogger bloggers everywhere
I love you. I love to read your blogs. And I love to comment....when I am able to. The new blogger captcha codes are an absolute nightmare and I am struggling to get them right, even after 2 go-s! Please, if you feel secure enough to do so, switch them off and turn on comment moderation instead, or even just leave comments open. If it is any reassurance, I have had no code to type in or moderation for over a year and have never had a piece of spam. Admittedly, my blog is not the most highly trafficked of all blogs but it still holds true that I have never regretted switching them off! If you do feel secure enough, please do switch those captcha codes off - I know I am not the only one to struggle with them. And dialogue is one of the loveliest things about our blogging world.

Oh thank goodness someone is talking about these wretched things!! I thought I was the only one having to do it 2 or 3 times before I got it right!! And TWO words..insane!! I turned mine off during the last Bead soup and have not had any issues since....it certainly is starting to put me off when I see those almost unreadable letters...I have to force myself to go further!
Anyway..thanks for bringing it up Rebecca!!

I hate them too......I am slowly going blind, so it was hard enough to make them out before now its almost impossible
I think mine is off now, I'm off to check. Thank you for bringing it up Rebecca, They are kind of annoying
I have never had captcha codes and have never had problems - like you mine is not a highly viewed blog, but still no problems. I too am having a hard time proving that I'm not a robot.
I agree with you. I'm going to turn mine off now. I turned them off after a spate of spam. But I'm happy to try again.
I meant I turned them ON after the spate of spam. They are off now - so we'll see.
Captcha is on everyone's terrible, no good, bad, awful list. It is even worse on a mobile device. They are particularly difficult for the elderly and for people with vision problems as moonlitfantseas mentioned above.
I know that there are rude people in the world. However, I also believe that if you expect good things of people they will live up to those expectations.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment.
I've just taken it off mine, since I managed to get 'spam' type comments even with it enabled!
I was wondering what was going on until I realized it was happening to all Blogger blogs! I use Wordpress. Having to type in double words is a pain, but I understand the need for security.
I've had maybe 3 spams in the history of my blog - and it's not big deal. Just delete it ;)
Thanks for this plea!
Agreed! I was wondering what was going on! I hate those Captcha things. I think I hate most of all that they murdered the word Capture! ;-) I used to moderate comments until that became too cumbersome. It is really annoying when I am on a blog hop. And the Blogger spam filter at least is totally awesome. Anything that is flagged as spam doesn't even get to my blog unless I put it there! I just go in every once in awhile and delete them. I don't think that it is more secure. I think that it means that I will be commenting less.
Enjoy the day!

Yay! Well said. I've never used codes or comment moderation either - I figure I'll wait until I encounter some problem first ;-)
agreed...I've had to do the Captcha thing more than 10 times in some cases. I figured they were trying to make it more secure, but seriously...it is ridiculous now!
I SO agree with you - that new captchas are even worse and are making me nuts. I turned off the captcha on my blog a few yrs ago, and have comment moderation, and I couldn't tell you the last time spam escaped from the spam filter. the captcha is especially bad when you're trying to comment from your phone.
I've been having issues with them too and had to abandon comments after repeated gos... nightmare!
Some of those blurry things make me want to give up. I have just started blogging and being able to interact with others is so important. I prefer the simple math equations instead. Though honestly, sometimes I mess those up too. Just found your site and love all of the resources listed. Thank you.
A one word Captcha was bad enough but two words is a royal pain in the arse. They are often impossible to make out and I'm wondering if they really deter robotic spam or do they merely impede the average blogger from leaving comments?
I turned my word verification off a couple of years ago and I hope that blogger hasn't made it a requirement due to all of google's changes.
