I placed a couple of orders this weekend. I'm trying extra hard to shop 'local' (the UK) at the moment, since both US postal prices went up, AND our customs charges threshold was lowered. Now, buying from outside Europe, you are only allowed to spend a total of 15 measly ££s, including postage.....ouch. Not a lot you will get for that money! So, whilst I'm sure I'll still splash out on the odd BIG splurge (to soak up the evil customs handling charge you understand ;-)), I'm looking closer to home for my handmade beads for the moment.
I've got my staple UK makers who I shop with often - Bo Hulley, Joanne Tinley and Lesley Watt to name just a few - but this has given me an excuse to search a little harder for my art beads. Here are some of the lovelies coming my way.
(thanks Claire Lockwood for the tip)
(of course, I simply couldn't resist this one, could I?!)
and a couple of other things from the Uk that have arrived these past few weeks:
What's hitting/has hit your door mat recently?

Hi Rebecca, I think it's £15 plus the postage. But hoorah for UK sellers.

Import charges have really limited the amount of beads I buy from abroad, it makes no sense paying an extra £12 for beads that cost £15, so I am also looking for beads closer to home, Loving scorched earth!
NOOOO! I've been so good at keeping to my budget this month and now you've ruined it! ;0) Can't resist those little bunnies from Soul silver...
Yes the new US postal rates and painful customs charges mean that many shiny pretties lie far beyond my reach at the moment. I gaze longingly at some US made art beads but there is no way I can justify spending all that extra money on them!
We are lucky to have some awesome bead artists over this side of the pond though! I got a nice little stash of Bo Hulley's components through on Saturday, and should soon have some pretty lampwork beads from the Fyre Faerie as well :)
Let us hope that Obamas prooposed free trade area will be realised soon. And those postal prices are a real pity. Now sometimes the postage is way higher than the actual purchase. Unfortunately the suppliers here are underwhelming except dawanda. I must take a closer look...
luck one you are! i have some crusty junk arriving form Latvia. Crushed thimbles, worn metal o rings, assorted stuff dug up from the ground. can't wait! xoxo
Urgh, I know what you mean...it's crap! EU is still ok for avoiding customs though, but the US is just too expensive for smaller items now :(
I'm having to do the same. I love Scorched Earth and will be ordering from Petra soon. Thanks for mentioning my bird and bunny beads!
